Update as of June 25, 2007
Dear Friends and Supporters of
Sovereign Grace Publishers, Christian Literature World or Jay P. Green,
Sr.:
I have written you
this rather lengthy email to bring you up to date on what has happened
since we last communicated back in December 2006.
God willing I am at present seeking donations
to get both Sovereign Grace Publishers and Christian Literature
World back in operation along with getting the KJ3 finally
printed. I also want to ask your forgiveness for the mistakes I
have made towards you as fellow Christians and as supporters of
this ministry through the backorders you may have with us, or
for funds lost through my mismanagement. I not only seek your
forgiveness but have also sought the forgiveness of our Heavenly
Father in these same matters. I also want to say that I have
every intention of filling all backorders currently due
customers and supporters from either Sovereign Grace Publishers
and Christian Literature World. At present I cannot give
a timetable for accomplishing the goal to fill all backorders
but with God's help do feel that we will get them filled.
Refunds - We have received a
number of refund requests from customers that are tired of waiting
for the KJ3 Bibles. At present we are unable to issue any
refunds due to a complete lack of funds as explained below but we
will be more than happy to substitute other books from the 325
titles that we do have in print. However, if only a refund is
acceptable, we will try and make those at a later date, subject to
the Lord providing the means. I will come up with a program to
allow supporters who no longer desire to wait for their backorders
to take other books to cover the amount of any refund requests.
Again our current cash flow doesn't allow us to instantly fill all
substitution requests at this time, but God willing, we will try to
get them done in a reasonable amount of time.
We have been
through a brutal six months this year.
1. During
December 2006 and January through February 2007 - Dad (now 88 years old) was battling
Esophageal cancer caused by Acid reflex syndrome, underwent surgery and
photodynamic therapy, eventually landing him in the hospital for 26
straight days from the first week of February through the first week of
March. During that time, he spent fourteen days in ICU (Intensive Care
Units) having lost six units of blood in one evening when his throat
hemorrhaged. He received six units of blood during a three day period
then contracted a 50% fatal blood disease commonly called the ICU blood
disease. That required him to undergo three rounds of an extremely
powerful IV antibiotic disease which had to be intravenously fed
directly into the heart due to potential damage to other arteries and
veins from the strength of the antibiotics. Also during that period of
time, it appears a staff member of the hospital accidentally gave him
insulin designated for Dad's roommate (Dad is not diabetic) causing him
to crash and almost die. Amazingly he pulled through but during the
entire episode both my father and our family continually sought God's
will through it all as to Dad being called home or not.
2. On February
11, 2007 - a foreign entity, not identified as yet, managed to breach
our credit card payment gateway (authorizenet.com) for sgpbooks.com
and processed 21,735 one dollar credit card authorizations in a period
of less than six hours after the close of business. I discovered the
breach upon returning home from the hospital about 11:30 PM and
immediately set about stopping the breach. I eventually had to shut down
the website to stop the breach. As authorizenet.com charges us $.10 per
transaction and our credit card processor charges us $.45 per
transaction, we became liable in that six hour period for the payment of
$11,954.25 for this breach. This is more money than we had in the bank
causing the gateway and credit card processor to overdraw our bank
accounts as well as suspend our ability to process credit card
transactions. Therefore this not only overdrew our bank accounts but
also stopped our revenue stream as 90% of our income comes in the form
of credit card transactions. It should be pointed out that the breach
was not through our website, or our servers, but rather through the
servers at authorizenet.com.
3. On February
20, 2007 - While Dad was in the ICU, I learned that my wife Tina wanted
a divorce.
4. During early
March 2007, all evidence of Dad's esophageal cancer was gone and he was
declared in 100% remission with only six month checkups scheduled.
5. During March
2007, our web hosting company closed all of our websites due to our
inability to pay our hosting bills, and the office and ministry phones
were shut off for the same reason. Again, the cash flow problems became
unmanageable after the credit card processing breach.
6. On April 9, 2007, I, (Jay Jr.) had a heart
attack caused by blood clots, and was put on four different heart
medicines and cumadin. My heart remained out of rhythm until June
2007. This further limited my time to operate the ministry, which
was for all intents and purposes already closed down since the
February credit card processing breach.. In addition to the above, I
crushed a disk in my back moving furniture back in the house after
my wife moved out.
7. April -
July 2007, a new cancer was found in Dad's mouth which was a different
species of cancer and not at all related to the esophageal cancer. The
tumor was discovered during a routine dental checkup, and was noticed on
his upper left gum. Cat scans and pet scans were performed and it was
discovered that the tumor has spread into his nasal cavities. Surgery
was not an option as it would be too invasive, therefore treatment for
the cancer would consist of five days a week radiation and one day a
week chemotherapy. Treatment began in late May 2007 and was suspended
after one week of treatment as Dad ended up in the hospital again for
one week with pneumonia. Treatment resumed in June 2007. and will
continue through July 2007. Dad's health continues to take about 20
hours a week of my time. His renal (kidney) kidney problems have been
stable with a creatin level of 1.8 to 2.8 and are treated with weekly
Aronesp shots and monthly iron injections. He continues to try and work
as he is able.
8. May 2007, I
managed to get sufficient funds put together from the tax preparation
work to get a telephone installed for Sovereign Grace Publishers. The
phone number is (765) 838-0836. I also managed to get the credit card
processing firm to forgive most of their bill. To begin processing
credit cards, I need to pay authorizenet about $1,400 and about another
$1,500 to the credit card processor. In the interim I am able to use our
Paypal account to process credit cards.
9. June 2007, I am
in process of getting the websites back open by working through a
Christian web hosting company in Australia. In addition, I have opened a
website at
http://www.sgpbooks.com and hope to
have it functional in the next couple of weeks. At present, it is a Unix
site, and my database ASP pages won't work on this site therefore all my
ASP pages must be converted to PHP pages. I have absolutely no
experience in PHP so must figure out how to change the database from
Microsoft Access to MYSQL and then how to make database calls using php.
At present I haven't found a WYSIWYG php editor for me to use and am
still trying to use Microsoft FrontPage.
10. December 2006 -
June 2007 - All of our efforts to have the complete KJ3 Bibles published
have failed miserably. At present we only have the KJ3 available as a
New Testament paperback, soon I will be adding the KJ3 NT with the
Psalms as a hardback and paperback, and will try and do the Old
Testament minus the Psalms as a Hardback and paperback with binding to
match the NT with Psalms. I have located a printer in Michigan who will
print the complete editions including paperback, hardback and flexible
leather bound edition but without Gold edging and rounded corners for a
sum of $25,000. The moneys previously raised for the KJ3 publication
effort had been sent to printer overseas who never delivered the Bibles,
with other funds having been used in the development of the KJ3. At
present there are no funds available for the printing of the KJ3. I am
going to attempt to raise sufficient fund through donations to finally
get this Bible in print. These funds will be sent directly to the
printer in Michigan so that they can't be depleted. To do this I need
the websites up and must email our friends customers and supporters and
leave it in God's hands to provide the means to get the KJ3 Bible in
print.

1.
CONSIDERING COMMON STOCK OFFERING As Sovereign Grace is in its 54th year, I am once again sitting here and pondering the future of SGP and its related companies’ ministries. We have been blessed to serve our Lord and Master for all these years. With the help of customers and supporters like you, we have accomplished much and God-willing hope to accomplish even more. As many of you may now for the past six months I have been speaking with many of you on the phone or in e-mails to try and explain why the KJ3 isn’t available yet or why this other project isn’t completed. At times the expected delivery dates we give seem to be a complete fabrication or falsehood but when I give those dates, I truly believe they are realistic and that we can come close to meeting them but alas this or that happened and the date(s) again needed advancing or the funds didn’t become available to meet the delivery date. In speaking to one supporter the other day, he stated that proof that what we are doing is worthwhile is the fact that Satan keeps blocking everything we do. Maybe the expected dates partly come from my optimistic side and a complete and firm belief that God will provide what we need when we need it but the truth remains I believe those dates when I give them. Maybe it is because God has his own time-table and I am trying to accelerate it. What ever the reason, I accept what happens and continue to plod along doing the best the Lord allows me to do with what the Lord provides us to do with and realize that we are working under His timetable, not ours. We are constantly hampered by a lack of funds necessary for us to timely complete the projects we have undertaken and often relying upon donations and prepaid pre-publication orders from our customers and supporters to complete those projects. This worked well back in the 1960’s through the late 1990’s, but doesn’t seem to work as well in this century. Our performance of late has caused a lack of confidence which has reduced your willingness to “prepay” your orders and has also cut into our donations. It is quickly becoming apparent to me that we can no longer fund these Bible projects in the manner that we have previously used. It is for this reason, I am suggesting several different means of funding and capitalizing SGP’s ministries and the large projects that SGP undertakes. Without adequate funding, we must reconsider what we are able to do and seriously consider if the Lord is leading us to do the projects at all. I am therefore exploring and proposing the following ways to raise the capital to get this done.
By purchasing stock;
DO NOT CONSIDER PURCHASING THIS STOCK, IF:
a) having to establish the worldwide distribution and sales channels with bookstores, such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Baker & Taylor, Borders Books, the major Christian and secular book distributors, or, b) setting up an order desk, building a catalog, advertising, or, c) hiring the people to handle the shipping, or, any of the other costs of being a book publisher.
DO NOT SPONSOR A BOOK;
|
If you have an interest in the Sponsor-A-Book Program, review the titles at http://www.sgpbooks.com/SponsorBook.asp and pick a title to sponsor online, or, contact us, or, if you have knowledge of a title that is out of print that should be in print, please let us know and we will calculate the costs of printing that title.
Please be aware that we will not knowingly publish any title that is not in agreement with our doctrinal beliefs.
ATTENTION AUTHORS: JOIN THE FAMILY — PUBLISH YOUR BOOK PROGRAM — If you yourself have authored or compiled a title that you believe should be in print, or that was in print by another publisher and has since gone out of print, let us know and we will see if we can put the title into print. Again, please be aware that we will not knowingly publish any title that is not in agreement with our doctrinal beliefs. Under this program, you will pay the costs of putting the work into print, and we will split the net proceeds evenly (50-50) with you. You might be able to put your book in print for as low as $250.00 but the cost could be higher if editing, pagination, proofreading or typesetting are needed. The $250 price is based on a book already typeset, edited, proofread and ready for printing.
MISSION AND PRISON MINISTRY FREE BIBLE AND BOOK PROGRAM — DONATIONS NEEDED — SGP and CLW has been sending Bibles (Interlinear, Literal, MKJV and KJV Bibles) along with other study books to prisoners, missionaries, and missions throughout the world at no cost to the recipient for the past ten years. We receive about 50 requests per month for Bibles under this program. SGP has always tried to give Bibles freely to those who ask and are in need as much as our inventory allows. Lately, as our inventory stocks have dwindled, we have been building a backlog of prisoner requests that we have been unable to fill. We really need your donations to help support this ministry and there is no way of calculating the difference this could make in the prisoner’s lives, their families, and for society and the Body of Christ. Sovereign Grace Publishers, Inc. is committed to the belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the exalted Lord of all things. We believe the Holy Scriptures determines the view of all those who profess Him as Savior and Lord. Hence, our organization believes the Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant and authoritative Word of God, the final rule of all Christian faith and practice. Even though we don’t recognize any creed or confession of faith as a final authority, our organization does distribute the Philadelphia Confession of Faith as a summarized statement of our basic doctrinal and practical beliefs.
We are dedicated to translating and preserving the Word of God without alteration, paraphrasing, or in any way inserting our beliefs and doctrines or anyone else’s belief or doctrines into the Bible. We also believe that the Greek ‘Textus Receptus’ or ‘Received Text’ (primary text used by the translators of the King James Version) has been preserved by the Triune God and remain committed to only using this text as the basis of all of our New Testament translation work.
At the same time we also believe that the old English language used by the KJV translators, while poetic and beautiful, is not easily understood by the English speaking nations of the world today, and therefore make every effort to match our translation efforts to the language of today.
Additionally, we are dedicated to republishing and preserving
the works of Puritan and modern-day authors which we believe to be of benefit to
all Christians in their daily walk with our Lord and Savior.
I am expounding the accomplishments below not to bring any glory to SGP or any of the individuals behind SGP. I am stating these points to allow you to see how the Lord allows anyone to work for the Body of Christ without millions of dollars, corporate sponsorships, big committees and any of the other normal business formulas many believe are necessary to accomplish worthwhile goals. YOU can make a difference as long as you seek His guidance and He will use you for His glory and honor as long as you put Christ first. History has shown us from the days of Martin Luther, John Calvin, Matthew Henry, Charles Spurgeon, James Strong, Gesenius, Daniel Webster, Tyndale, (Note: no committees here) and many others have made a difference as individuals. These were individuals chosen by God to either guide and mentor those that followed or to develop tools to assist Christians in their daily walk with Christ. I sincerely believe that none of these men accomplished what they accomplished for their own glory nor did they ask to do what they accomplished for the Body of Christ. I also believe that they were led by our Triune God to accomplish what they accomplished. So also we have attempted to do our part.
Description: This is what we believe will replace the KJV in this century. This Bible is a direct word for word translation from the same Hebrew and Greek that the KJV was translated from but using today’s language instead of the poetic Old English. Many readers have been amazed at the clarity that this Bible brings to the Scriptures. Will be available as a paperback, hardback, pew Bible and genuine leather editions.
Progress: At printers in China.
Hold-up: Funds to get the Bibles released.
Funds Needed: $25,000.00 to get the Bibles printed in Michigan, $1,500 to pay for the shipping, and an additional $15,000 to get the second printing started (first printing is nearly sold out). We have had many pre-sales and many supporters have made donations, but many more supporters have also placed their orders with instructions to not charge for the Bibles till they are in our warehouse and being shipped to the customers. We are waiting word from one supporter who might be putting up the funds to get this first printing released and shipped to us but then again may not.
Time Frame: Six to eight weeks after receipt of funds necessary for the printer.
Cash Flow returned after shipment: $30,000 within 30 days of arrival from unpaid orders already placed.
Description: Retains the 1985 Old Testament, but adds the 2006 New Testament with the 1769 KJV added within the New Testament as a separate side column. Also adds the Hebrew and Greek Lexicons in a single carrying volume which will be the same size and weight as the current one volume, but with 404 added pages. Will be available as a bonded leather hardback, 8 ½” X 11”.
Features: Clear, easier reading New Testament Greek text, corrected Strong’s Numbers, over 6,000 translation changes, included Hebrew and Greek Lexicons allowing easy and quick additional research into every Hebrew & Greek word, all included in one volume.
Progress: Typesetting has been completed through the Gospels and part of Acts which is about 50% of the New Testament revisions. The lexicons require pasting up into a three column format. This edition adds the 1769 King James Version in a separate side column in the New Testament, along with numbering all the Greek words and many translation changes since the 1985 edition.
Hold-up: Time and funds. The hold-up on this project is a lack of funds and staff to complete the typesetting. Jay Sr. has completed the revisions by hand but I haven’t been able to keep up with the typesetting of the Greek which I must do prior to turning it over to Jackie Serafim, an unpaid volunteer who is typesetting the Strong’s numbers and the interlined English as well as proofing the Greek for accuracy.
Funds Needed: $10,000 to complete typesetting the New Testament and $30,000 for the printing.
Time Frame assuming adequate funding: 200 man-hours for typesetting, 12 weeks for printing and delivery.
Cash Flow returned after shipment: $40,000 within 180 days of arrival from bookstore and distributor orders, along with new customer orders..
Description: This is the Old Testament to match the 2000 Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, with the 1769 KJV in a separate side column, 404 added Hebrew-English and Greek-English Lexicon pages . Will be available as a bonded leather hardback edition and a flexible genuine leather edition with ribbon markers.
Progress: Basic page layout completed, typesetting started.
Hold-up: Time and funds: I am again the hold-up as I am the one doing the typesetting of the Hebrew due to a lack of staff to assign this project to. We have volunteers ready in Tennessee to enter the Hebrew, English and Strong’s numbers into a database which we hope then can be used to output the Old Testament.
Funds Needed: Typesetting: $50,000 Printing: $50,000
Time Frame assuming adequate funding: 3,500 man-hours for typesetting (1 full-time person = 87.5 weeks, 2 persons = 43.25 weeks, 4 persons = 21.66 weeks, plus 12 weeks for printing and delivery. As you can see, it all depends on funding and the ability to find competent staff for the typesetting. If no staff, it could be as long as eight to ten years as I am unable to devote more than 6 to 10 hours a week of my time.
Description: This will be the first Interlinear Greek-English-Spanish New Testament based on the Textus Receptus. Presently the Spanish speaking world does not have an accurate Bible translation available based on the Textus Receptus.
Progress: The book of John has been translated.
Hold-up: Time and funds to move forward with both translation and typesetting, more volunteers needed for translation work.
Funds Needed: Translation: $0 – Volunteers, Staff Spanish Editor $20,000 Typesetting: $12,000 Printing: $10,000
Time Frame: Translation – 1,200 hours; Typesetting: 1,200 hours; Printing and delivery 12 weeks.
Market: It is predicted that the Hispanic population in the US will rival the Anglo population within the next twenty years.
Description: This will bring the Interlinear Bible into Bible software programs all over the world and allow for easier development of Interlinear Bibles into virtually all languages of the world. This could be what is needed to offset the popular use of the corrupt manuscripts by so many scholars in the English speaking nations of the world. There is a real hunger for a true and accurate “Textus Receptus” Bible needed for the Body of Christ in other languages. Our KJ3 above is being translated into Indonesian and is nearly completed. They have a real hunger for the truth. What prompted this Indonesian non-profit organization to translate the Bible is that all Christian Bibles in Indonesian use “Allah” as the name for our Savior.
Progress: Waiting to complete contract between the parties.
Hold-up: Time and funds – Much will be done by volunteers, but much will need to be done by internal staff.
Funds Needed: Staff: $20,000 (one full time person for one year)
Time Frame: Six to twelve months.
Progress: Must Wait for Item 3 above to be completed.
Hold Up: Item 3 above
Funds Needed: $35,000 for printing
Description: This will be the first English only Study Bible produced by Sovereign Grace. The plan is to add cross references and a concordance and is what we need to do to advance the KJ3 into a main stream Bible which is our desire and many of you have also expressed the same desire.
Progress: None
Hold Up: Volunteers needed to begin work.
Funds Needed: None estimated
Unholy Hands on the Bible, Volume 3 – Progress: Written, typeset, needs final pagination and proofreading, Hold Up: Man-hours = 40, Printing Funds = $4,000

Fifty Greatest Christian Classics – 12 Volume Set, five have previously been printed, seven have never been printed. This entire series is going to be put into the Sponsor A Book Program described above and will be reliant upon God moving sponsors to come forward and provide the means to produce the balance of this set if it is to be done.
In closing, I believe that we may not have been correctly following the Lord’s lead in doing His work for the Body of Christ. I had come to believe that I must accomplish all these things to honor the Heavenly Father and my birth father, Jay P. Green, Sr. I thought that I had to make this happen or that happen and that the whole burden fell on my shoulders, and by doing thusly you tend to think that you are the one accomplishing the accomplishments when things do manage to get done. It is not I nor my birth father Jay Sr.’s work, but rather it is the Heavenly Father’s work and with this letter to you, I am placing it all in His hands to do as He sees best. I am merely a tool and if he provides the means I will follow and do my utmost to do what he allows me to do, if He doesn’t provide then I shall continue to seek His guidance. It is with this thought that I ask you to join us in praying and seeking His guidance and blessings on this ministry if it be His will.
A lowly servant of Our Savior and Christ,
Jay P. Green, Jr.,
President
