To date, we have received a little over $14,000 in donations towards our goal of $37,445.00. This leaves us just short of the halfway point towards our goal.
We have installed the Xerox Docutech 135 and begun printing the One Volume Interlinear Bible. The first week after delivery, Xerox was installing the Docutech. The next three days were spent debugging the equipment. The next two days after that, we ran 200,000 impressions and produced over 180 complete Bibles ready for the bindery.
It cost us over $1,000 to rewire the warehouse to accommodate all of the equipment. We didn't have this planned in our budget.
We have installed the paper cutter allowing us to trim the book-blocks as they come off the Docutech.
We have purchased the C. P. Bourg BB 2000 perfect binder, mentioned below, for $9,895.00. It is to be shipped to us on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 with arrival expected around August 10, 2004.
We have purchased $5,000 in paper stocks and begun printing the one volume Interlinear Bible. We expect to deliver the first 450 copies to the binder this Friday, July 31, 2004. The binder plans to deliver the first of these to us by August 31, 2004.
$6,000.00 — The binder is asking for $6,000 up front to purchase materials. The binder has then agreed to allow us to pay half of the cost of binding the Bibles at delivery and the balance in 30 days.
$2.000.00 — We need these funds to purchase the balance of the supplies necessary to complete our production capital.
$2,500.00 — We need $2,500.00 to produce and mail a new SGP catalog to our bookstores and distributors so they will know the Interlinears are again available.
$4,500.00 — We need the funds to resume producing and mailing The News and Views of the Christian Literature World to you and other Saints.
$6,500.00 — We need to pay some of our overhead expenses that we have been neglecting while we were getting the materials and equipment to begin production. This amount is also needed to renew our lease with our Landlord.
This totals $21,500 still needed to assure that we will be able to continue delivering these Bible Study tools to you and the other Saints.
If you have prospered so that you could contribute towards the amount needed for our ministry, would it be too much for us to ask you to help us? Please give it some prayerful thought and let us know. If God agrees, you may; 1) make your donation check payable to Sovereign Grace Publishers, Inc. or, 2) make a credit card donation at http://www.sgpbooks.com/donations.cfm, or, make a donation using PayPal, by clicking on one of the dollar icons in the side column. Contact us by e-mail to discuss the easiest way to make a donation payment.
Your many past gracious responses to our needs have been appreciated, and have been lifted up to God in our prayers. There is no doubt that you are listed in God's Book of Remembrance (Mal. 3:16).

It has been suggested that our donation efforts might be more successful if we gave you something in return. To that end, we will offer the following:
For a $10.00 donation, we will send you Five Points of Calvinism, and CLW's Best Books In Print 1992, while supplies last.
For a $20.00 donation, we will send you a copy of the Classic Bible Dictionary, or, a copy of Soul Winning Classics from the 50 Greatest Christian Classics.
For a $50.00 donation, we will send you a copy of the One Volume Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible from this current printing being done, expected September 7, 2004.
For a $100.00 donation, we will send you a copy of the Four Volume Interlinear Hebrew-Greek-English Bible from this current printing being done, expected September 15, 2004.
For a $250.00, $500.00, or, $1000.00 donation, we will give you a gift certificate good for the same amount as your donation to be used at a 35% discount off the retail price of any book from Sovereign Grace Publishers or Christian Literature World, Inc.
Just specify which of the above gifts you desire with your donation.
Another donor suggested that we address the issue of what appears to be poor stewardship regarding the long delays in producing several of the book projects that we have undertaken. I will try to address each of these now.
Traditionally, we had to print a minimum of 1,000 copies of a book in order to produce it at a reasonable retail price. This is the case with Unholy Hands on the Bible, Volume III. We had hoped that Lightning Source, the outside print on demand printer that we began using in 2000 would be able to produce these works in smaller quantities, thereby reducing the amount of up-front capital that we would need to produce the book. Conventionally, 1,000 copies would cost about $7,000 to get this in print. Using print on demand, we could get this same book in print for about $500.00. Lightning Source advised us that they could produce satisfactory hardcover books using this technology. When we received out first hardback copies from them, they were not satisfactory. This meant that the previous promised delivery dates (made planning on using Lightning to produce) could not be met because the quality of the hard-cover books just wasn't there.
We didn't have the $7,000 to produce the books conventionally and our presales weren't sufficient to produce the book conventionally. In the past, we issued purchased contracts to dear saints that allowed us to produce our book projects and then paid the Saints back as the balance of the inventory was sold. But with the recession, 9/11, and the Iraq war, our sales downturn didn't allow us to meet our obligations to these dear saints in a timely manner as our overhead costs for survival just didn't leave enough funds to meet those obligations. We decided in good consciousness that we couldn't use this method of financing when we couldn't meet our past obligations. Lightning kept improving their hard-cover quality but never to a point that we felt comfortable with.
Now that we have our own in house print on demand operation, it is our plan to produce this title in house, and have it bound by our outside bindery. This means that we should be able to deliver Unholy Hands Volume III, no later than October 2004.
This has been a tough one. We originally estimated over $200,000 just for re-typesetting this title. Obviously, the $9,316.00 raised doesn't even come close to covering the costs of typesetting alone. The 9,316.00 raised includes the New Testament which we have delivered to our customers. This leaves $6,987.00 total available for the three Old Testament Volumes. Originally, my wife - Tina, Tracy, Jay Sr. and myself were typesetting this. Jay Sr. has developed severe arthritis in his hands which limits what he can do on the typesetting. We had to let Tracy go during the economic downturn. With the downturn cutbacks, Doug retired which left my wife and I covering the accounting functions, and the bulk of my time was spent just keeping the doors open. This meant that we had little time to devote to typesetting the Old Testament. We kept thinking that the economy would pick up allowing us to hire people which would allow us to again concentrate on the typesetting which is why we kept advancing the date. I guess I'm an optimist and apparently unrealistic in my projections on this title.
I have tried to refund the purchase price on this title to many who have purchased, but they don't want the refunds, they want the books.
Does this title need re-typeset? Absolutely. Do we have the funds necessary to get this done at this time? Absolutely not.
What is my answer, prayer and lots of it. It took us over seven years to complete the Interlinear Bible originally and God provided the funds. Many times during that period we were close to closing our doors. But he provided just enough to keep us going and eventually we were able to put out the first edition. WE REALLY NEED TO GET THIS REVISED AND DONE but we must wait until the Lord provides us the means to do so. It is not on our schedule but rather on His. Again if any of you desire refunds, just ask and we will return your funds on this title. In the meantime, pray that we might be given the answer and the means to get this project completed.
Two bookstore customers purchased 600 copies of this title, the other 47 customers paid a total of $1,034.00 towards this title. The New Testament portion of this is being typeset by a volunteer out of Philadlephia. We estimate that she will complete the New Testament by November which means that hopefully this title will appear in December.
Both of these have completed typesetting and we wil be printing these in house during October 2004. You WILL get delivery on these by November 2004.
That is the major projects that we have underway and unfinished. There are some other minor titles that we are reprinting and these should appear in the fall. If you have any other questions about any other titles, please e-mail us at sales@sgpbooks.com.

Beloved Friend and Fellow-servant of our Most High God, Jesus Christ:
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is hoped that you will forgive me for being out of touch with you for so long.
I am now 85 years of age, and I have just this week finished the laborious task given to me by our God, the synchronizing of the words from our Interlinear Bible with the Literal Translation of the Bible. This has taken two and a half years, working morning, afternoon and night with what strength our God has given to me (now down to 30-35 hours per week)
Although we announced that The Literal Translation was ready to go to the printer last December, my attempts to always use the same translation of a word as appeared in the Interlinear Bible delayed me from releasing it into production. Also, new suggestions continued to arrive from different sources that will enrich this final edition. Further, we fell far short of the funds necessary to print the thin edition of the Literal Translation we announced previously having pre-sold less than a hundred copies.
The typesetting is done, and is ready to be put on the Internet in a plea for a host of proofreaders to help us proofread and issue a Bible that is as error-free as we can make it. We hope to print it in early October subject to it all being satisfactorily proofread and the funds being made available.
The problem with a small ministry is never having enough capital for the day to day operations let alone for producing Bibles and works requiring huge cash outlays prior to and during production. This is why we have in the past pre-sold editions of Bibles and other large works in an effort to raise sufficient cash to produce the books. This has led to months and years of delays in producing the books and Bibles you and other Christians sought. In the past this worked, but in this day and age, we are finding that the younger Christians are unwilling or unable to put out their money for a book they will receive at a date up to a year or two in the future. Further, there are fewer Christians building libraries.
It was thought that the new print-on-demand printing process (printing that allows for a single copy of a book to be produced at a time) provided by outside manufacturers we have used to produce over three hundred titles would help with our cash flows. Many of those three hundred books we have produced by print-on-demand (POD) technology would otherwise be permanently out of print. It was hoped that this POD printing process would allow us to accumulate additional funds necessary to keep our Bibles and books in print using the conventional printing methods that we have always used for Bible production. However the print-on-demand technology hasn’t generated enough funds to support our ministry and provide capital for the projects we have underway. It has been a success and is self-supporting but hasn’t been able to contribute much to other projects.
We haven’t been able to use the outside manufacturer print-on-demand process for Bible production as most print on demand systems only allow for the production of books under 740 pages (all of our Bibles and reference books exceed this page limitation). Further, most print on demand manufacturers use only one grade and quality of paper (recycled paper which is too poor in quality for Bibles). Therefore, the current print on demand manufacturers are unable to meet the standards necessary for Bible production. Their systems are mainly designed for paperback production, with a few manufacturers having made modifications to allow for some hardback books, but hardbacks really don’t fit their niche. Again, this doesn’t solve the Bible and reference book problem facing us.
Our solution seems to be to acquire our own print-on-demand equipment. We have executed a lease for a certified reconditioned Xerox Docutech NP135 to print the books and Bibles. The Docutechs are around two hundred fifty thousand dollars new. We are leasing this one for $35,000.00 with full factory service contract and warranty. This Docutech allows us to run thinner paper than the other print on demand manufacturers do thereby allowing us to now produce the Bibles, using POD technology, in smaller quantities with a lot lower cash outlay. We have obtained a booklet maker to go with the Docutech that will allow us to produce our own catalogs in house. Previously, we had to print a minimum of 5,000 catalogs, even though we might only mail 2,500. The other 2,500 basically went to waste. Additionally we have leased a paper cutter for trimming the books, Bibles and catalogs, an HP color printer to print paperbacks covers. We have located a five year old C.P. Bourg BB-2000 bookbinder which has only been used for three months from a Christian in California. This binder will allow us to bind books up to 2 1/2" inches which is about 1,400 pages using the lighter-weight paper. However as of this time, we haven’t located a leasing company willing to lease the bookbinder to us. The bookbinder cost is $9,995.00. The above equipment does it all, scanning, printing, and binding. And we can print one book at a time. However, we still must send out our hardback & leather bound books to an outside bindery. We have located one that is willing to bind as few as 250 volumes at a time which substantially lowers our capital requirements for producing the hard cover and leather bound books and Bibles.
After 9/11/01, our distributors and bookstores cut back on their purchases, cut back even further during the recession of 2002 and 2003, and even further with the beginning of the Iraq war. They have just now begun buying regularly again, but we have depleted all of our capital just surviving the above three factors. We don't have the capital to put the four volume Interlinear Back in Print without your help. Yet, as in all things, this POD system requires start-up costs. Our needs are as follows:
| Purchase the CP Bourg BB2000 bookbinder | $ 9,995.00 |
| Purchase initial supplies (paper, cover stocks, glues, toner, etc.) | $ 15,000.00 |
| Machine installations and setup | $ 7,500.00 |
| Initial bindery costs | $ 5,000.00 |
| Total funds required to begin production | $ 37, 445.00 |
We have already paid out over $8,000 in advance lease payments and spent another $5,000 getting the warehouse ready for the equipment..
We will print the one volume and four-volume Interlinear Bible first, since we have many orders. We will then print the Literal Translation as soon as it has been satisfactorily proofread. With the POD system, we can print all paperback books ordered each week and the hardback and leather bound books in quantities as low as 250 copies at a time. This will improve customer satisfaction due to quicker deliveries.
